This article explains how Amili collects claims from end customers abroad, what you can expect from the process, and what it costs.
When is international debt collection used?
International debt collection applies in cases where the end customer is resident or registered outside Norway, or moves out of the country during the case processing. Amili has dedicated case handlers who work with cases sent abroad.
Amili does not pursue claims under the following amounts:
- Nordic countries: NOK 2,500
- Europe and other countries: NOK 5,000
What is the procedure for these cases?
Amili first sends a debt collection notice and payment request in accordance with Norwegian debt collection regulations. If the claim remains unpaid after this, the claim is transferred to a local agent in the relevant country who continues the collection there.
What must be in place before transfer to an agent?
Before the claim can be transferred to a local agent, the following must be in place:
- You must approve the transfer to the agent, unless this has already been agreed in your debt collection agreement.
- All relevant documentation must be attached to the case, such as invoice copies, promissory notes, documents related to legal action, signed agreements, judgments, attachments, and correspondence with the end customer
If documentation or approval is missing, the case will be closed.
💡 Note: In the event of legal action, all necessary documents must be translated into the language of the relevant country. Translation costs are additional and agreed upon in advance.

Special notes on legal action in the United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom, legal proceedings are costly and handled by lawyers. Therefore, it is rarely relevant to send cases further legally there. Instead, the agent can send a Pre-Action Protocol – a notice that the case may be taken to court. This alone can often prompt payment. The agent can also locate and physically visit the end customer for an additional fee.
Prices for international debt collection
Amili charges a percentage of the amount collected. There is no annual fee, and you are not charged if the result is negative.
